Our Business

Reliance is a diversified metal solutions provider and the largest metals service center company in North America. Our primary business model focuses on diversity of products and end markets, value-added services, and customer relationships, and on strategic growth through acquisitions and organic growth initiatives.

Our
Business

Reliance’s primary business strategy is to provide the highest levels of quality and service to our customers in the most efficient operational manner. We serve over 125,000 customers primarily by providing value-added metals processing, inventory management services, and quick delivery. Through our Family of Companies network of approximately 315 locations in 40 states and 12 countries outside of the United States, we offer a full line of more than 100,000 metal products. Yet we are more than just metal. Over the years, our acquisitions and capital investments have broadened our services to achieve tighter tolerances of existing processing and expand to value-added processes such as kitting, contract manufacturing, packaging, inventory and supply chain management, storage, and others. We are able to deliver orders just-in-time – often within 24 hours of receipt. Our decentralized management business model empowers our subsidiaries to excel in their areas of expertise: employees at all levels are able to adapt and respond quickly to their specific regional, market, and industry conditions. Each Reliance employee is able to provide excellent service to customers, who are also fellow community members and neighbors. Quick turnaround, high quality, and best-in-class service save time, labor, and expense for our customers – over 95% of whom return to do business with us – and reduce overall manufacturing costs while increasing profitability across many industries.

Industries Served

Our
Industry

Metals service centers acquire primary products such as carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium, and alloy steel from metals producers and process them to customer specifications, including custom lengths, widths, shapes and surface characteristics. The specialized equipment used to process the metals requires high-volume production to be cost effective. Metals service centers like Reliance provide customers with readily available inventory, value-added metals processing, reliable and timely delivery, flexible minimum order size and quality control. We respond to a niche market created because of the focus on just-in-time inventory management and materials management outsourcing in the capital goods and related industries.

As the largest metals service center company in North America, Reliance will continue to be an active and strategic acquirer, at the forefront of consolidation in our large and still fragmented industry. Our strong financial profile, management philosophy, and acquisition expertise puts us firmly on the path of continued growth and profitability.
